Connect Your AI Tool to Autobooks
COMING SOON
What it does
The Autobooks AI Agents feature lets you connect Autobooks to the AI tool you already use, such as Claude or ChatGPT, and manage your invoicing and payments by chatting in your own words. Once connected, you can ask questions about your business and have the agent take actions for you.
For example, you can ask:
- "How many of my invoices are outstanding?"
- "Which ones are past due? Send reminders to customers who are past due."
- "Invoice Smith Plumbing $450 for the March repair, due in 30 days."
- "How much has my Payment Link brought in over the last 90 days?"
- "Which checkout page sells the most?"
Behind the scenes is the Autobooks MCP server. MCP (Model Context Protocol) is the open standard that AI tools use to connect to other apps. You don't need to know anything about MCP to use it: you connect from Autobooks in a few clicks.
Availability
If you don't see AI Agents in the menu, your business doesn't have access yet, or your bank or credit union has chosen not to offer it.
How to connect
Log into online banking at your bank and open Autobooks.
Connect Claude
- Choose AI Agents in the menu.
- Click Connect Claude. A new browser tab opens.
- On the new tab, click Continue to Claude. Claude opens with Autobooks already filled in.
- Sign in to Claude if asked, then confirm and click Connect.
- Back in Autobooks, the Claude tile shows Connected and today's date. Start a new chat in Claude and ask a question about your business.
Connect ChatGPT
- Choose AI Agents in the menu
- Click Connect ChatGPT. A new tab opens with the Autobooks server address.
- In ChatGPT, open Settings → Apps & Connectors.
- Under Advanced settings, turn on Developer mode.
- Choose Create and enter the Autobooks server address.
- Back in Autobooks, the ChatGPT tile shows Connected.
Connect another AI tool
On the AI Agents page, choose Other agents. Copy the Autobooks MCP server address: https://app.autobooks.co/mcp
- Open your AI tool's settings and look for MCP servers, connectors or integrations.
- Add a remote server and paste the address.
- Save, then start a new conversation.
- Your AI tool opens Autobooks in a new tab and asks you to sign in and approve access.
Your AI tool must support signing in with an OAuth client metadata document. If it asks you for a Client ID or Client Secret, it isn't supported yet. You can tell us which AI tool you use from the same page, and we use that to decide which ones to add next.
What each tool does
Your AI tool picks the right tool for what you ask, so you never call these by name. Just ask your AI tool what you need and it will use these tools to help.
Most AI tools show the tool name when it runs, and ask your permission before it changes anything. Tools marked Reads only look; tools marked Changes create or update something in Autobooks.

Why it's safe to use
An AI agent can never move money. It works only inside Autobooks, with the same access you have, and only until you disconnect it.
- No money movement. An agent can't make payments, send transfers or issue refunds.
- No account numbers or personal information. An agent never sees your bank account number, routing number, full card numbers or personal information such as your Social Security number. For payments, it sees only the last 4 digits of the card or account.
- Your login, your permissions. An agent acts as you, for your one business. It sees only what you can see in Autobooks.
- Your password stays private. You never give your AI tool your online banking or Autobooks password. Instead, you approve the connection inside Autobooks, and Autobooks gives your AI tool a key that works only for AI Agents.
- You approve every connection. Nothing connects until you click Connect or Allow in Autobooks. Before you approve, check that the address bar shows app.autobooks.co.
- You can disconnect at any time. When you disconnect, the AI tool loses access immediately.
Things to know before you ask an agent to make changes
- Invoices are sent right away. An invoice an agent creates is final, not a draft, and is emailed to your customer immediately. To review it first, ask the agent not to send it, then ask it to send the invoice when you're ready.
- Canceling an invoice can't be undone by the agent. Payments already applied to the invoice are unapplied, not refunded, and any late fees attached to it are canceled.
- Checkout pages go live right away. A new checkout page can take payments as soon as it's created. Ask the agent to keep it offline if you want to review it first.
Manage or disconnect an AI tool
- In Autobooks, choose AI Agents in the menu. Each connected AI tool shows Connected and the date you connected it.
- Click Disconnect, then click Disconnect again to confirm.
- The AI tool loses access immediately. Its tile shows Disconnected and the date, and you can connect it again at any time.
Troubleshooting
I don't see AI Agents in the menu. Your bank or credit union may have chosen not to offer it.
Claude says only an admin can add connectors. On Claude Team and Enterprise plans, only the workspace owner or an admin can add a custom connector. Ask your Claude admin to add Autobooks.
I have more than one business. Each Autobooks login belongs to one business, and an AI tool account holds one Autobooks connection at a time. To switch businesses, disconnect, then connect again while signed in to the other business.
